Old Floors Revealed at the Historic Shupe House

The old wooden floors are in the process of being revealed once more.  It has been nearly 50 years or so since these floors were open to the light of day.

To start the new year, we decided to continue our restoration work of the Historic c. 1816 Shupe House, the first frame house to have been constructed in Amherst, OH.  This past summer we worked on window restoration; we are now in the midst of exposing the old wooden flooring on the first floor of the house.

The old pine wood floors maintain a nice patina, and we hope to preserve this after they are properly cleaned.  Historically oriented molding, similar to that which was removed during the 1960s renovation to the house, will be installed.  It has been nearly 50 years since these floors were completely uncovered.  This project will continue to take the house back to its historic look.
